Curious about the Cathedral

12th September – 21st November, Lancaster City Museum

Curious about the Cathedral is a major exhibition being mounted to mark the Cathedral’s 150th anniversary. It takes place at Lancaster City Museum 12th September - 21st November 2009, and entry is free.

Much to see and explore

The exhibition traces the history of Catholic Lancaster from Medieval times until the present day, showing how centuries of persecution stirred among Catholics the desire to build the church which became Lancaster’s Cathedral in 1924.

Alongside the images and text, there is a range of fine objects including recusant chalices, missals and altar stones, items of Gillow furniture and some items from the Cathedral treasury not usually seen in public.

There are some tactile exhibits and you can try the aroma of some of the different types of incense that are used at Mass. All this and much more! Come along and visit.

Opening Times and other details

The exhibition is open daily Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, at Lancaster City Museum, Market Square, Lancaster LA1 1HT. Telephone 01524 64637. Entry is free.

This exhibition is mounted by Lancaster Cathedral and the Lancashire Museums Service, and is supported by Luzar Vestments, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council.
