Information for Students

The Cathedral welcomes students arriving in (or returning to) Lancaster. The parish acts as a spiritual home to many students, and is a chance to meet other Catholics from a variety of backgrounds and professions.

There are three weekend Masses: a vigil on Saturday at 6:30pm; then on Sunday at 10:30am, 6:30pm. The Sunday evening Mass tends to be the most popular for students! Confession is available on Saturdays, 11am-noon and 5:45-6:15pm, and on request at Cathedral House. The Cathedral is open every day for private prayer, 8:30am-6pm. For something different, why not come along to sung Vespers on Sundays at 4:40pm?

You are welcome to take an active part in Cathedral life, to enjoy the range of events here. In recent years students have acted as choir members, readers, servers and catechists within the parish - please let us know if you are interested in getting involved.

As well as Mass and other services, there are many social events, plus chances to learn more about your faith. Over the 2008-2009 academic year the Cathedral is running a programme called ‘Curious about the Eucharist’. For more details, click here.

On Sunday 19th October there is a welcome meal for students (free of charge) after 6:30pm Mass. Keep an eye on the parish newsletter (given out at all Masses, or click here) for more details.

The Cathedral aims to work with the chaplaincy services provided at the universities. For more details, visit the Lancaster University Catholic Chaplaincy site (here).
