In 2009 the Cathedral celebrates its 150th anniversary. The build-up begins on 29th April 2007, the 150th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone.

A range of events is planned to mark the anniversary. The climax of the celebrations will be on 4th October 2009, exactly 150 years after the church was consecrated and opened. a day of festivities is planned. Other highlights include:

a parish pilgrimage/holiday to Rome
a major exhibition of the history of the parish
publication of a book of the parish's history
a range of social events throughout 2009
