28th-30th September 2009

Information for Visitors with Disabilities

On this page you can find practical information for visitors who have restricted mobility or have other access needs.

Arrival and Access

There is no parking very close to the Cathedral entrance, but visitors who have restricted mobility may be dropped off very close to the main entrance. You can access the drop-off area from the East Road entrance at the side of the Cathedral.

Visitors using a wheelchair must enter via the small side door at the front of the Cathedral. From this door there is a platform lift which provides access to the Cathedral. Some areas (where the video is being shown, and the Carmelite cell) must be accessed using separate entrances. Please ask a steward on site if you wish to visit these areas.

Reserved Seating

A limited number of seats will be reserved at the front of the Cathedral for the main liturgical celebrations (Mass, Liturgy of the Hours). We respectfully ask that only those people who are unable to queue to receive Holy Communion use these seats. If you use a wheelchair, please ask the stewards to assist you in finding a suitable place for Mass and let them know if you need any assistance to receive Holy Communion or go forward for a blessing.

Visiting the Relics

If you are unable to queue for long periods to visit the relics please tell one of the stewards on site who will make arrangements to assist you.

Accessible toilets for disabled visitors is situated in the corridor running off from the side entrance of the Cathedral, in the Cathedral Social Centre and in the Pastoral Centre, close to the Carmelite Cell.
